Personality: Mercer's polite and tries to be friendly and he likes to see a new friendly face (especially living so far from most towns), though he tries his best to be kind and empathetic towards new people as it was how he figures is the best way to go (he never saw a point to being rude to a person). He works hard at what he attempts and though he doesn't always excel at what he tries it doesn't mean he won't make the effort.
Mercer likes to daydream to his favorite classic songs though remains undecided on what to do with his future which worries him a great deal.
His worries also include; friends doing dumb things, peer pressure, and did he brush his teeth that day

History: Mercer grew up in a small town in the desert several miles from the Capitol, where his father worked in construction and his mother worked as a teacher. Doug, the blitzle, his friend since he was 6, brought to him by his aunt and uncle, whose zebstrika had had a young blitzle recently, figured Mercer would be better off with a new friend. His upbringing was rocky with his father being frequently upset with him and sometimes shouting, and as far as grabbing his hand and shouting when Mercer 'messed up' in his eyes. Mercer loves his parents, though got along better with his aunt and uncle. His only relief came from sneaking out very early in the morning to ride Doug during the twilight hours of dawn.

After learning that some of his classmates were planning to leave and apply for their Trainer's licenses during his sophomore year he began to prepare himself to do the same by thinking out ideas and routes he could take and researching popular places to train and trying to catch up on PKMN and what most would learn in Trainer's school. His parents forbade him from transferring to a Trainer's School as there was no job security in being a Trainer according to them, and using guilt they managed to convince him out of it and Mercer lost his spirit for much of anything. A worrying Doug would nudge him often during these hopeless periods.

However, like most origin stories, a group of riders passed through his town for a battle performance, and captivated the audience that attended, including Mercer and Doug, with their skill and strategy in battle to suspenseful points. The display had Mercer tingling for the rest of the day and excited all over again. Months later on an early morning, him, Doug, and a backpack full of supplies, a map, and uncertain ambitions (but honestly he didn't want to work in construction), snuck out without leaving a note (anarchy).

9 months have passed since he ran away with having found a ranch that was willing to take him in without question so long as he did a hard day's work, he found something partly better than what was in his future. Though he knows this is only one of the starting steps, he just needs to raise a some more money to pay for a train ticket!

Additional Notes: He’s something of a cowboy in training, living on a ranch helping around with Doug lending a hoof! he has uncertain dreams about the future, sometimes he wants to be a trainer but sometimes he wants to explore! Other times he likes to pretend he and Doug could be heroes..
The marks around his eyes and hand were his father's pressuring him to have them permanently marked into his face a few years back because of family tradition. Mercer cried for days after but he's gotten used to them now.
His pink hair strands are genetic and grow in odd patches, last he checked he found a few pink strands popping up behind his hair (We call this the 'anime hair genetics' (It's PKMN, we have this happen all the time))

Battle Tactics: Mercer uses what he learned from researching online and library reading so he's book smart though experience wise he and Doug haven't done much besides spar battle with classmates and sometimes with the people on the ranch. Currently he's trying to figure out how to cover Doug's weaknesses and help him out though it's a slow process. Practice makes perfect though!

Personality: Doug was named Doug by Mercer's aunt and uncle because it was similar to dog, because the young blitzle while still getting to know Mercer would lick the boy and well, act like a dog! He's a hoot and a holler and Mercer and him have been through a lot, he's completely loyal to Mercer though gets a little jealous when Mercer opted to hang out with other friends in school instead of him, though he's always happy to see Mercer. He's goofy and always tries to cheer Mercer up when he's feeling down.
He can also teach you how to Dougie.
Short History:  Doug was the only blitzle child of a racing zebstrika, and was given to Mercer because his aunt and uncle worried that Mercer's parents negativity would rub off on him. He and Mercer used to visit Doug's mother before they ran off.
